Welcome to the Skidi Siberian Huskies Web Site! Skidi Siberians began in 1997 with the purchase of our first show Siberian, Ch. Kossok's Oklahoma Sunrise (a.k.a. Okie), from Alice J. Watt. Our kennel has grown to include two other Kossok's Siberians - Ch. Kossok's Big Sky Over Skidi and Kossok's Watch Me Fly Skidi. Alice has helped us to get off to a great start by being a great coach, mentor, and friend. We have teamed up with Sooner Siberians to incorporate a very nice bitch, Nica-Pa's Whispering Wind and three of her pups (two sired by Sky) into our kennel. While our kennel started with an eye for the show ring we have been working hard to learn what it takes to put together a sled dog race team. Our aim is for dogs who can perform in both the ring and in harness. We strive to produce quality Siberians Huskies who are beautifully put together, have extending -ground covering- sidegait, and happy friendly temperaments. Scott has had Siberians for over 30 years now. His first Siberian, Ram, was out of Dr. Roland Lombard's Igloo Pak kennel. Ram was an all white, brown eyed pup who loved to run. We were both born in Alaska but quickly became Okies when my family moved back to Oklahoma. The Siberians have let me hold a connection to my past. The kennel name is inspired by the Skidi band of the Pawnee tribe, which has its tribal headquarters in Pawnee, Oklahoma where we live. In Pawnee, the word Skidi means "The Wolf People," which is a nice play on the similar appearance between the wolf and the Siberian Husky. When we moved to Pawnee a tribal chief told me that I need to watch my dogs around the Skidi, "because they eat those type of dogs." I knew he was having some fun with me but it took several months to finally understand the joke. Read the Skidi Creation Story by following the link below to figure it out for yourself. I also serve as the Pastor to the Pawnee and Skedee (Americanized spelling) United Methodist Churches. The Skedee United Methodist Church is in the town of Skedee. I have been told that Skedee is listed among the Ghost Towns of Oklahoma. While there is not much left of the town, there are many wonderful, loving, hearty people who call it home. So it is with a great deal of pride and tribute to the Skidi people, the town, and church in Skedee that we have chosen this name for our kennel.
