Maybe there is something in the water around here that causes an unusual interest in civic projects when ingested, because most of the established fire departments in our area couldn't believe that we had so many committed people from such a small area, much less the amount of training we completed in a short period of time.
The volunteers of Silver City VFD are several extremely attractive, well-respected, highly intelligent, highly motivated, enthusiastic, civic-minded pillars of our community, all of whom are kind to animals, eat three well-balanced, nourishing meals each day, get precisely eight hours of sleep each night, and are in prime physical condition:

We're north of (behind) the fire station and east of the barn in a big wide open grassy space that we use for a landing zone.
This may someday be the site of a concrete helipad. As of December 2005, our current volunteers had completed over 4200 hours of formal training, almost all of which was provided by Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training.

No Marines yet. Seems like I read somewhere that all Marines learn never to volunteer for anything. Maybe that explains it.
Some day, perhaps we will be awarded a grant to design and build an armed, flying, diesel-powered fire fighting/law enforcement vehicle complete with a fully-equipped kitchen, three-point hitch, and live PTO.
It must also have esthetic appeal.
(11/22/97 - After reading the above paragraph concerning the hypothetical vehicle, alert web-surfer Arl Movitz couldn't get it off his mind until he actually sat down and designed one. If you desire, you may view Arl's sketch here.)
