John was a three-year veteran of Silver City fire department and a member of our board of directors. He was our brother in arms, a visionary board member, and a loving husband and father. John leaves behind a wife, Marcie, and three children. Marcie is also a Silver City firefighter and an EMT both for Silver City and for Mannford EMS. John and Marcie crewed together on a grass rig for much of the wildfire incident, and Marcie was nearby when he collapsed. He was surrounded by his best friends and loved ones in his final moments. John's funeral was held at Mannford First Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He was interred with full honors at Oak Hill Cemetery near Mannford. |

It is with deep regret that we announce the on-duty death of Silver City volunteer firefighter John Adams. John passed away at approximately 10:30 PM on Friday, February 20, 2009 during the final mop-up phase of what had been a long and extremely intense wildland fire incident. At the time of his collapse, John was maneuvering a fire truck on Highway 51 near Silver City. Firefighters from Silver City and eight other volunteer departments had fought the blaze for 12 hours. Approximately 600 acres were scorched and several out buildings were damaged or destroyed. Firefighters were able to protect all homes in the path of the blaze. Arson is suspected as the cause. |
