Unit 601

601 is a 1979 4WD Chevy/Pierce mini pumper that we came across in 2005, and although we weren't really looking for a new unit at the time, the deal was too good to pass up. This truck still has less than 8000 original miles on it. After we rigged this truck for the rescue/medical mission, we donated our previous rescue unit to Slick Fire Department, who at the time (early 2006) was starting up their own medical First Responder program.

601 is powered by a 350 Chevy engine, and sports a 250 gpm pump with a 300 gallon tank. It's capable of pump and roll, but the transmission clutch disconnects the pump. This truck is primarly our First Responder unit, and also responds to motor vehicle accidents and as a support unit on structure fires.

The timing was fortuitious when we found this truck, as we were able to acquire the funding to purchase and equip it through a grant opportunity that came up at the same time.

4. ...a 1500-watt generator, which is mounted next to the cord reel.
