Another Unofficial Web Page of the

Silver City
Volunteer Fire Department

Unit 502

502 is (was) a 1984 Chevrolet 5/4-ton military 4x4 pickup, a la our other Chevy 4x4, unit 501.

I was remiss in updating this web site for quite a while, and unfortunately have no pics of 502 while it was in service. We lost
502 during a grass fire in April 2006. Nobody was hurt, but the truck was totalled.

PAY ATTENTION:

When they say "attack from the black", there's a reason for it.

A month before this happened, one Oklahoma fire fighter was killed, and another was severely injured when the wind shifted and the fire flanked them. Our prayers go out to them and their families.

Our situation was not that critical, but the fire fighter responsible for this (who shall remain nameless), knew better. We are fortunate that this did not result in a fire fighter injury.

We were also fortunate that Forestry was able to provide us with a replacement truck almost immediately. At the time this is written, we are in the process of preparing it for service. I hope to have pics of our "new" 502 (third version) up on the site soon.
