Wireless Router Setup

When setting up a wireless network it is best to use an access point instead of a wireless router. Most wireless routers use the same IP address scheme as the Westell modem/router, in this case a 192.168.1.x network. When connecting a wireless router behind the Westell, the wireless router becomes confused by seeing the same IP address scheme on the public and private sides. This will cause the wireless router to not work. We do have a Westell wireless modem/router available for purchase if you so choose. A possible work around to use a third party wireless router is to change the address scheme of the Westell so as to not confuse the third party wireless router. Below are the instructions to do so. NOTE: This does not apply to Telco Video.

Enter the following address in your Internet Explorer or Firefox address bar, http://192.168.1.1 .

From the main Westell configuration page choose Configuration, Advanced LAN, Private LAN (Different versions of the Westell may vary slightly).

Change the modem IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1.

Change the DHCP start address from 192.168.1.15 to 192.168.0.15.

Change the DHCP end address from 192.168.1.47 to 192.168.0.47.

Click save, another prompt should appear, click OK

This should reset the address scheme for the Westell. You can disable and re enable any computer’s network ethernet connection or reboot the computer so that it may get a new address from the Westell. Your wireless router can now be hooked up to the Westell. It should work on its own, if not set the wireless router’s WAN interface to DHCP.
